Powerful Explosions and Plumes of Smoke Reported in Central Tehran
As per on-the-ground reports, two loud blasts were audible in Tehran on Saturday morning. Correspondingly, columns of dense smoke were observed rising over the centre and east of the Iranian capital.
“The type of explosions indicates that this is a strike involving missiles,” one news agency reported, though it did not immediately provide additional information.

The incident occurs against a background of sharply increased tensions in the Middle East. Key events leading up to this attack involve:
- US Military Buildup: A massive build-up of American warships in the Middle East, featuring the movement of aircraft carriers.
- Nuclear Talks: Recent talks between the US and Iranian officials on Tehran's nuclear programme ended inconclusively, with suggestions of more discussions planned.
- Official Rhetoric: Prior to the strike, a prominent American figure had described Iran as “the leading state sponsor of terrorism” and delivered threats regarding its weapons development.
- Ultimatum: Reportedly, a deadline of roughly two weeks had been presented to Iran to resolve the nuclear dispute or face serious repercussions.
Iranian Response
In response to prior accusations, Iranian authorities had charged the US of spreading “falsehoods” about its missiles programme. They rejected claims about missile development and casualty figures as baseless.
