Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations show the substance was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
A senior political figure said the attack left him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
